Skincare basics

Skincare can be confusing, especially with the millions of skincare products available and all of the millions of dollars behind the marketing campaigns …. even I have to dissect exactly what is being advertised and why.  Skincare broken down to its SUPER BASIC form is a matter of cleansing, exfoliating, hydrating, renewing and protecting.   Skincare even in its super basic high level form can be just as confusing.  Lets take the first step: cleansing.   This simply means exactly what is reads, cleaning the skin.  However, there are many different cleansers or washes, gels, lotions, foams, creamy to foam, oils, oils to cream, bar soap — the list goes on and on.  The best way to choose a cleanser is to choose the option that does not leave your skin feeling like the Sahara desert ( tight and dry) , most soap users like this feeling.  What is happening is you are stripping the skin of its natural barrier function ( the beautiful natural oils and PH ) , that your skin miraculously creates to protect from bacteria, function correctly , look dewy and does not create “disease” of the skin.  Next time you cleanse, check in to see how your skin feels, remember your fingertips are the best cleansing applicators, not a scrub brush, harsh wash cloth or face wipe or buffing pad.  It is hard to switch, but try it, you’ll love the way your skin looks !!
